Sinta Wullur / Netherlands & Bali
Granted from January until February 2017
Born in 1958 in Bandung, Indonesia, Sinta Wullur immigrated to the Netherlands when she was only ten years old. She initially studied classical piano there at the conservatory in Amsterdam, where she also started her composition studies; she continued studying composition at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag. In addition, she studied electronic music, as well as Gamelan music and voice on Bali and Java.
In the Netherlands Wullur founded several Gamelan groups and published a number of CDs. In her compositions she attempts to bring together Eastern and Western sounds. She succeeded exemplarily in doing this in her Gamelan opera "Ramayana through Flashbacks," which features custom-developed Gamelan instruments with Western chromatic tuning.

Sinta Wullur has been invited by the music department of the Münchner Stadtmuseum to prepare for a large gamelan festival, which will take place in Munich in 2018.
