Claudio Gobbi / Italy
Granted in May 2017
Born in 1971 in Ancona, Claudio Gobbi initially studied political science in Rome and photography in Milan. In the meantime, he has made a name for himself as a photographer, his photographs have been shown at international exhibitions, he has received several renowned awards, and he was a guest artist at, among other institutions, Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Artistically he is especially interested in collective memory, European heritage and European history. At the same time, with his photographs he attempts to test the boundaries of photography as a medium. In 2016 he was nominated for the prize awarded by the German Stock Exchange for his monograph on Armenian churches (published by Hatje Cantz Verlag). This artist currently lives and works in Berlin. In Munich Claudio Gobbi would like to look for the traces of the Italian Renaissance in Munich's architecture, with the support of the Photography Collection of the municipal museum Münchner Stadtmuseum.
