Va-Bene Fiatsi / Ghana
Granted in November 2017
The multi-disciplinary artist Va-Bene Fiatsi, aka CrazinisT, lives and works in Ghana. In 2014 she received her bachelor's degree in fine arts from the university in Kumasi, Ghana, where she is currently working on her master's degree in fine arts.
The provocative performances of CrazinisT deal with cultural tensions, in other words, with human rights, gender, sexuality, prejudices, sexism, religious fanaticism, political injustices, and ostracized minorities in civil societies. She views her work as rituals of identity that examine the vulnerability of minorities and the tension between exhibitionism and voyeurism, and her works are documented not only in her live performances but also in photographs of her studio performances, in her experimental videos, films, and installations. CrazinisT has worked in many different countries, including, to name a few, Ghana; Togo; South Africa; Great Britain; and Switzerland. More information can be found on her website: www.crazinistart.com.
CrazinisT is part of a large performance project by the Munich artist Dorothea Seror; the project deals with old and new rituals of women. "Beyond Ritual – Body of Power" will conduct workshops at different locations over the course of three months, and also give religious, therapeutic, and shamanist ritual performances. During the night of October 31 and into the early hours of November 1, 2017 Villa Waldberta will also be the location of a ceremonial art happening. More informations here
