Tung-Lung Wu / Taiwan
Granted from April until June 2019
Wu Tung-Lung was born in 1976 in Taipei and is one of the few artists in Taiwan who has been involved for many years in the further development of abstract painting. He studied fine arts at the National Taiwan University of Arts in Taipei, and received his master's degree from the Tainan National College of Arts in Tainan, Taiwan.
Based on old manual techniques of Chinese painting on wood, he developed a style that – on the basis of a monochromatic imprimatur – combines informal elements with a minimalistic vocabulary of shapes. Wu Tung-Lung has participated in many exhibitions in Asia. Among other exhibitions, he had solo exhibitions in 2017 and 2018 in Taiwan and Singapore. Wu Tung-Lung took part in international residence programs several times: in 2008 at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris; in 2012 at the Glenfiddich Distillery, Dufftown (U.K.); and in 2013 at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), New York, U.S.
The "Apartment of Art," an independent, exhibition space managed by artists in Munich, has been organizing – in cooperation with the Department of Arts and Culture – for some time now a very lively exchange with Taiwan's capital city, Taipei. Wu Tung-Lung is the guest at Villa Waldberta; his solo exhibition in the Apartment of Art will have its opening in May. It will be his first exhibition in Germany.
